Frequently asked questions(FAQ)
Adam Smith University has been providing distance learning education programs since 1991. We are an experienced provider of online education and our programs are widely recognized. Our self-paced programs are designed with the working professional in mind.Â
Our programs are affordable and students can study anywhere they have an Internet connection, including their phone, tablet, or computer. The course tuition is all-inclusive. No additional books or materials need to be purchased. All of the required course materials are embedded in the course.
Yes, our degrees are widely recognized. We have charters in Northern Marina Islands and France. Our school is seeking registration with the Accrediting Commission of Trinidad and Tobago.Â
Yes, we will evaluate prior learning for academic credit towards degree programs at Adam Smith University. The acceptance of transfer credit is at the discretion of the school’s registrar. Generally speaking, we accept credits from properly recognized and accredited universities, but limit the transfer of credit to 75% of the total credits required for completion of a degree program. We require all students to take a minimum of 25% of their program at our institution.Â
Your lessons are asynchronous, meaning there is no set time for taking your courses or exams. You can study any time and complete the lessons at your convenience. We encourage you to take as much time as you need to absorb and understand the material, on a schedule that meets your needs.
We’ve gone green! And have done away with all printed materials (except for our incarcerated students). All of our courses have been updated to use only online materials and lessons. Courses that previously used hard copy text books, now include eBooks.
Although you will have access to all of your courses and lessons immediately, we encourage you to work through them in the order they are presented as one often builds upon another. Access to the exams will ordinarily be locked denied you have completely the required lessons and assignments. The final exams will automatically unlock, provided you are current on your tuition.
Sure. Our approach to education is different. Instead of learning from a single instructor as with a traditional school, you get to benefit from the experience and knowledge of several academic professionals in every class you take. Our courses are developed by a team of highly qualified professionals and then presented by a professor with appropriate experience. Every one of our instructors has at least a Master’s Degree and many of them have Doctorate degrees from well respected schools. Each of our programs is made possible by a team of academic advisors, subject matter experts, course authors, and support staff working to ensure our students achieve their goals.Â
We offer 24/5 support primarily via forums and email, which we have found to be the most efficient means of communicating for both our customers and our support staff. Most technical issues can be resolved in a single email.
Our students receive access to our learning guides, documentation, community forums, and help desk via the Student Portal, and like technical support our staff is available 24/5 to answer any questions you might have. Because much of our faculty works remotely, from locations across the world, we always have someone available to help. If the question involves specific subject knowledge, our support staff will direct your message to the most appropriate person. Please see our Support Policy for additional details.
In each course syllabus, you can find information about your particular instructor or advisor. We encourage you to contact the course instructor, by email, with any questions you may have throughout your course. In addition, you can contact our academic support team, by phone or by clicking the support tab in the student portal. They would be glad to point you to additional resources.
By default, all web pages are served using HTTPS from our secure cloud-based infrastructure. All personal passwords are encrypted. In addition, our e-commerce integration is PCI compliant. In fact, your sensitive financial data never even touches our servers.
Student record are stored digitally, in a fully encrypted database and backed up remotely. In addition, all access to course materials, such as images and videos, are via URLs that are individually encrypted for each user to prevent unauthorized sharing of resources. Our systems are secure, and regularly audited by a third party security firm.
The time it takes to earn your degree depends upon several factors, including the number of credits accepted for transfer. You may be able to graduate early, by utilizing credit earned through examination programs, such as those available through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP)Â or previous college courses.
The total cost of completing your program depends on the tuition plan that you choose. We offer various tuition plans to fit into your budget. All of our graduates graduate without incurring any educational debt. To see our plans, please visit the Tuition Options page. Students from Trinidad and Tobago may qualify for financial aid and incarcerated individuals may receive free or low cost education.
