Accreditation and Recognition
You want to be confident your school is legitimate. Adam Smith University is nationally recognized, so you can rest assured that your education here will result in an accepted credential, whether that be a degree or certificate. The school is properly licensed and recognized at the national level, which serves as the public notification that the institution meets or exceeds the quality standards set forth by regulators.
In operation since 1991, the University has served the needs of distance learners around the world. In 2020, the school opted to move to it’s operations to the Port of Spain. During this transition period, the school continues to operate, under its Saipan and French authority, but is working towards achieving accreditation in Trinidad and Tobago. We anticipate completing this process soon.

Registration and Accreditation
Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs – Adam Smith University applied for incorporation in Trinidad and Tobago as a Limited Liability Company as Adam Smith University, LTD, with offices in the Port of Spain and registration with the Ministry of Legal Affairs, in accordance with local regulations.
Accreditation Council Recognition (In Progress) – Adam Smith University is seeking to be recognized by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago as a Post Secondary Institution in accordance with Chapter 39:06. To operate in Trinidad and Tobago, providers of post-secondary and tertiary education must be registered. “Satisfying the requirements of the Criteria for Registration provides the assurance that registered institutions meet or exceed the minimum standards required for provision of quality education and training. Institutions that satisfy ACTT’s requirements for registration will be granted the status of a ‘registered institution’ and placed on a Register of Post Secondary and Tertiary Institutions maintained by the line Ministry.”
Once we have this recognition, we will begin to admit additional students from Trinidad and Tobago.
Memberships and Recognition
Chamber Membership – Adam Smith University is a Bronze Level Member of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The T & T Chamber is the largest and longest established business chamber in the country. With over 600 active members comprising of importers, exporters, manufacturers, retailers, consultants, academia, and others, it better represents more of the Trinidad and Tobago business landscape than any other.
The Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL) Member – Adam Smith University is an Institutional Member of ACURIL an organization that seeks to facilitate the development, use, and preservation of information resources, such as libraries, archives, and information services in support of the whole range of intellectual and educational endeavors throughout the Caribbean area.
Additional Recognitions
Norther Mariana Islands – The university maintains a postal address in Saipan, MP, United States of America and has a charter issued in the United States of America by the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
France –Adam Smith University received a charter as a non profit association from the Prefecture of Pyrenees-Atlantiques on 10 July, 2001, No. 0643010097, registered in the Journal Officiel de la Republic Francaise on page 3741 on 4 August, 2001. On 15 November, 2004 this charter was modified to change the name of this French association to Ecole Superieure Universitaire Adam Smith and permits Adam Smith University to offer distance learning courses at a postsecondary level, under the the legislation of the French Ministry of Education (Article L731-1).
