Academic Status

There are three categories of academic standing: Academic Good Standing, Academic Review, and Academic Dismissal

To remain in Academic Good Standing, all of our students must do the following:

  • Submit the requirements for admission in accordance with our Admission Standards
  • Maintain a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 throughout the program
  • Earn a passing grade in each course of their program

A student will be placed under Academic Review when it is questionable whether the student will be successful in the program or it meets the qualifications for admission into the program.

  • Fail a final exam or assignment in one of the required course programs
  • Allow their GPA to fall below 2.0 or fail a required course
  • Fail on any attempt of any section(s) of a semester exam
  • Fail to submit the requirements for admission defined in our Admission Standards
  • Disregard Adam Smith University’s Academic Honesty and/or Student Conduct Policy

Academic Dismissal will result if students do any of the following.

  • Fail a subsequent course after being placed on Academic Review
  • Fail a any of the section(s) a semester exam on a second attempt
  • Fails to maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 for two consecutive Semesters
  • Willfully violates Adam Smith University’s Academic Honesty and/or Student Conduct Policy

Students who are academically dismissed will not be allowed to enroll in any other degree or certificate programs at Adam Smith University in the future. A student may appeal the dismissal by submitting, in writing, an appeal to the Board of Adam Smith University, within 15 days of being notified of the dismissal by Adam State. Decisions rendered by the Board are final.

Enrollment Status

There are three status states for students depending on their progression through the enrollment and graduation processes.

  • “Applicant” status is someone who has submitted an enrollment agreement and is financially current with Adam Smith University; applicants may be denied admission after review of their admissions documentation and first course progress.
  • “Inactive Student” status is someone who, in addition to being admitted to a program, has completed the transcript evaluation process, but is not regularly submitting assignments or is not current with regard to financial obligations with Adam Smith University.
  • “Active Student” status is someone who, in addition to being enrolled and financially current, is regularly submitting assessments in academic courses. At Adam Smith University, students work at their own pace. But the school provides students with recommended completion times to help students stay on track for timely completion of program and graduation requirements.

If students need an official status letter, Adam Smith University is able to issue a Status Letter and Transcript upon request. In order for the university to issue these documents, students must have completed a transcript evaluation, completed one course, and be current in their tuition payments.
