Dr. Grunewald has extensive experience in education. He was an instructor and lecturer of business administration at The University of Kansas and Rutgers University. From 1967-1972 he worked at Suffolk University, where he served in many capacities, including Professor of Political Economy, Dean of The College of Business Administration, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Vice President.
From 1972 through 1984, Dr. Grunewald served as President of Mercy College, where he was recognized for developing solutions to critical problems in higher education. From 1986 to 2018, he helped lead Iona College as professor of Strategic Management, chairing the committee to develop a new MBA program in 1995 and chairing the faculty committee to develop the new business school building. For his work in academia, Dr. Grunewald has received 12 honorary doctoral degrees and received nine honorary knighthoods from chivalric orders.

As head of the University, Dr. Grunewald has general authority and responsibility for the operations of the University. He is the primary administrator, providing leadership that fosters the cooperation of all the University’s stakeholders necessary to fulfill the university’s teaching, research, and public service responsibilities.
In discharging the responsibilities of the office, Dr. Grunewald oversees the university communications, policies, and procedures as well as its faculty, staff, and programs.
