Maximum Allowable Transfer Credits

Undergraduate students may receive transfer credit for up to 75 percent of their associate or bachelor’s degree program as a combination of transfer credits from other programs/institutions.

In the associate degree program, students may receive credit for up to 45 credit hours out of the  60 required for graduation. In the bachelor’s degree program, students may receive credit for up to 90 credit hours out of the 120 required for graduation.

Adam Smith University does not have a recency requirement for general education or elective credits to be eligible for transfer. Courses that are not general education or electives and are more than 10 years old may require further review before transfer credit is awarded. This may require more information from the institution at which the course was taken. For example, a course description or syllabus, in order to ensure that the material covered is still current.

Applying for Transfer Credits

Students may request to have previously earned, college-level transfer credits applied toward their Adam Smith University degree or certificate program. If you have credits you would like to transfer, you need to submit an official transcript from your previous school(s) within 90 days of enrollment at Adam Smith University. An official college transcript is one that comes directly from the former institutions to the Registrar’s office at Adam Smith University.

The Adam Smith University Registrar will evaluate the transfer credit eligibility and determine a degree plan to ensure that the student takes the minimum number of courses required to graduate. To apply for transfer credit, the student must request an official transcript from the previous school and pay in associated fees. Similar to requests for high school transcripts, the student should include their maiden name and/or any other previously used names on the form if their name has changed since attending college.

Such requests should not be sent to Adam Smith University. It is the student’s responsibility to request the transcripts and verify the transcripts have been sent. Except for credits that fulfill general education or elective requirements, credits being transferred must be equivalent to course offerings at Adam Smith University,

The total combined credit received by transfer credit or credit by exam/prior training can not exceed the limits defined in our Transfer Credit policy.
